🕌 Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
One of the world's most beautiful and most accessible mosques. Wide ramps, flat marble floors, spacious prayer hall with the world's second-largest hand-woven carpet. Wheelchair users are warmly welcomed. Free admission. Open to non-Muslim visitors Saturday-Thursday mornings. Modest dress required.
🏛️ Mutrah Corniche & Souq
Muscat's beautiful waterfront promenade is flat and perfect for rolling. The adjacent Mutrah Souq is one of the oldest in the Arab world — the main corridors are accessible, filled with frankincense, silver jewelry, and textiles. Less aggressive vendors than some Middle Eastern markets.
🏜️ Wahiba Sands Desert
Golden sand dunes stretching to the horizon. Some desert camps can accommodate wheelchair users in ground-level tents. 4WD dune bashing (thrilling!) and sunset views over the sands. The experience of sleeping under desert stars is unforgettable. Book through accessible tour operators.
🏔️ Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain)
A dramatic mountain region with terraced villages, rose farms, and canyon viewpoints. Reachable by 4WD. The viewpoints at Diana's Point have paved areas. The Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar resort on the canyon rim has accessible rooms with jaw-dropping views.

Oman's hospitality culture is legendary — Omanis are gentle, welcoming, and genuinely helpful without being overbearing. It's one of the safest countries in the Middle East. The culture combines traditional Arabian values with a relaxed, moderate atmosphere. Alcohol is available in hotels.
📅 Best Time
October-March for comfortable temperatures (20-30°C). Summer (June-September) is extremely hot (40°C+) and should be avoided. The Salalah/Dhofar region in the south has a unique green monsoon season (July-September) called the Khareef.

Muscat: Modern sidewalks in the Corniche area and around the Grand Mosque. Mutrah Souq: Main corridors are flat and smooth — narrower than it looks from outside. Wahiba Sands: Deep sand — 4WD only, no walking expected. Wadi Shab/Wadi Bani Khalid: Rocky terrain with water crossings — NOT wheelchair accessible. Jebel Akhdar: Mountain resort roads are paved.

Muscat to Nizwa: 110 mi (175 km, 2 hours). Muscat to Wahiba Sands: 155 mi (250 km, 3 hours). Muscat to Sur: 185 mi (300 km, 3.5 hours). Muscat to Jebel Akhdar: 99 mi (160 km, 2.5 hours). Oman is big — road trips are the format. Roads are excellent.
